16 - EMBRACED WITH CARE

It was a brand-new day for the couple. After the long fast and rituals of the previous day, exhaustion hung softly in the air. Rishi, however, was the first to wake up. His discipline unwavering, he had already completed his workout and was now in the shower. Janvi was still sound asleep, her serene face glowing in the morning light. Seeing her like that, Rishi didn’t have the heart to wake her up.

~ His outfit

Once out of the shower, dressed in a crisp, casual outfit, he reached for his phone on the bedside table. That’s when he heard it—a soft sob.

His brows furrowed. He noticed the blanket moving ever so slightly.

He rushed to her side, gently patting her shoulder.

“Dove, are you okay?” he asked softly.

Another sob escaped her lips, and his concern deepened.

“Jaan?” he whispered.

“What happened?”

The blanket shifted, and her tear-streaked face emerged.

“Jaan…” he cupped her cheeks, wiping her tears with his thumb.

“What happened, baccha?”

She sniffled.

“I got my periods,” she mumbled, exhausted.

Rishi’s concern deepened further.

“When?”

“Last night... around 2 a.m.”

His voice turned soft yet slightly hurt.

“Baby, why didn’t you wake me up?”

“You were sleeping so peacefully... why would I disturb you for no reason?” she replied.

He gently scolded her, his eyes soft.

“Who said it was for no reason? You were in pain and didn’t even tell me…”

“Is it hurting too much?”

“Y-yes,” she whispered and broke down again.

“I’m not going anywhere today,” he declared immediately.

“Rishi, you have a meeting today,” she reminded.

“That meeting can go to hell—I don’t care. You tell me what you need. Anything to eat?”

“You go... I’ll be fine,” she said softly.

He sat beside her, holding her hand.

“I can’t see you like this. You’re crying, jaan. I know you’re hurting. Please don’t hide it from me.”

“There’s nothing to worry about… I’ll be fine,” she whispered again.

“No. I’ll work from home,” he said firmly.

“Rishi, please don’t be stubborn. You’ve been stressed these past two nights. Go. I’ll be okay,” she said, trying to sound stern.

“Jaan—”

“I said go.”

He huffed.

“Apke liye kuch leke aau?” (Shall I bring something for you?)

She sniffled.

“Muffins.”

He smiled and kissed her forehead.

“I’ll be back as soon as possible. If the pain gets worse, call me. I’ll come immediately.”

“Bye,” he whispered again, gently tucking her in before reluctantly heading out.

After his meeting, he returned home with her favorite muffins and chocolates. He asked the maids about her.

“Madam hasn’t come downstairs… and didn’t even have breakfast,” they said.

Rishi's heart sank. He rushed upstairs and unlocked the bedroom door—only to be shocked by the first words he heard.

“Pagalande chhodike, bhadwe saale, bakwaas band kar chaman!”

He froze in place.

There stood Janvi, near the bed, wearing his oversized shirt and her pajamas—looking absolutely adorable, but hurling words that would make a sailor blush.

Rishi stood there, stunned. His sweet, soft-spoken wife had just invented her own genre of swearing.

Janvi ended the call, threw her phone on the bed, and turned around—only to meet her husband’s wide-eyed gaze.

“A-a-aap aagaye... itne jaldi?” she stammered.

“Apko bhi gaaliyan deni aati hai?” he asked, half amused, half in disbelief.

“Bhi matlab? Apko bhi aati hai?” she asked, raising a brow.

“Haan matlab... aati to hai... par aap please gharwalo ke saamne mat dena,” he chuckled.

“Itna mujhe bhi pata hai,” she replied, rolling her eyes.

“By the way, kis se jhagda ho raha tha?”

“Ashwath. Usko dhang se baat karni hi nahi aati. Gadha hai ek number ka.”

He handed her the muffin bag and said, more seriously,

“Pehle ye batao, nashta kyun nahi kiya?”

“Mann nahi tha... kuch khane ka mann hi nahi hua.”

She smiled faintly.

“But thanks for the muffins, Mr. Sweetheart.”

He blushed at the name.

“My pleasure, jaan.”

“You look cute when you blush, Mr. Sweetheart,” she teased.

Trying to avoid the compliment, he handed her a muffin.

“Just eat your muffins.”

She tiptoed, kissed his cheek, and he quickly held her waist so she wouldn’t lose balance. He kissed her forehead.

“Is it still hurting?”

“Yeah, but not that bad now.”

He made her sit down and fed her muffins gently. Afterward, he heated her water bag, and she fell asleep peacefully while he stroked her hair, a soft smile playing on his lips.

Time slipped by as he finished his work on the couch without disturbing her. When he finally shut his laptop, he looked at the clock—it was already past noon.

He walked to the bed and gently patted her cheek.

“Dove, wake up. Let’s have lunch, baby, then you can sleep again.”

She stirred, eyes still heavy with sleep, and curled up against his lap.

“Jaan… wake up,” he whispered again.

She slowly opened her eyes.

“What time is it?”

“12,” he replied.

Rubbing her eyes adorably, she yawned.

“I’m tired...”

“Okay, then let me get our lunch here in the room.”

She held his hand.

“No, let it be... I’ll go downstairs. Everyone might misunderstand.”

“No one’s home. Mumma, Papa, and Akshita have gone to the NGO. We’re alone.”

“Ohh... okay then.”

She freshened up, and by the time she came out, lunch was ready—two neat plates arranged on the table in front of the couch.

“Which sabzi do you want?” Rishi asked.

“Which one’s the spiciest?”

He smiled and served her the spiciest one, and they ate together peacefully.

After lunch, Janvi opened her laptop.

“You should rest,” Rishi said, worried.

“I’ll be fine. Just a little work.”

After three days , it was evening when everyone were seated in the living room . Chatting and discussing about their day.

Arnav was seated beside his dadi and Poornima was gently stroking his hairs with love.

In the middle of the discussion Poornima said " main batana bhul gayi par agle harte hum sab Rishikesh ja rahe hai "

"Why?" Asked Ananya

"Janvi and rishi didn't perform the pooja,

And it's compulsory for all to come "

Said Manish

" pichli baar ki Tarah main subah 5 baje nahi uthne wala " said Akshay

" thik hai tu ghar mein sad hum sab wamiqa ke saath ja rahe hai " said Ananya

"Subah 5 baje itna bhi jaldi nahi hai, uth jauga main " said Akshay scratching his nape

Everyone laughed and teased him .
