2 - WHERE DRAMA BEGINS

Rishi was staring at her for what felt like an eternity. He had no idea who was around or what was happening in the surroundings. He just couldn't take his eyes off her. Captivated by her beauty, he didn't even notice his best friend approaching.

He snapped back to reality when Rahul smacked him lightly on the head.

He blinked several times and stuttered,

"H-Ha... b-bol."

("Y-Yeah... s-say it.")

Rahul raised an eyebrow.

"Kise dekh ke kho gaya bhai?"

("Who were you lost staring at, bro?")

"K-Kya?" Rishi struggled to form words.

("W-What?")

"Kaha kho gaya bhai! Rab se awazein laga raha hu," Rahul said, clearly amused.

("Where were you lost, man? I've been calling out to you like I'm calling God.")

"Nahi, kuch nahi," Rishi mumbled.

("No, nothing.")

"I'm saying, inform your mom that you'll be late," Rahul said.

"Tu pagal hai kya? Saale kal subah meri client meeting hai. Teko pata hai na? Main waise bhi barely manage kar raha hu. Agar aur late hua na toh client ko bolna padega meeting prepone karne ko."

("Are you crazy? Dude, I have an early client meeting tomorrow morning. You know that, right? I'm already barely managing. If I get any later, I'll have to ask the client to prepone the meeting.")

"Arey par-" Rahul tried to interject.

("But hey-")

"Sorry bhai. Main rukta agar meeting nahi hoti toh."

("Sorry, man. I would've stayed if there wasn't a meeting.")

"Accha theek hai. Par yaad hai na maine leave liya hai. Toh mujhe kaam mat dena."

("Okay, fine. But remember, I've taken leave. So don't dump work on me.")

Rishi chuckled, "Ha bhai, yaad hai."

("Yeah man, I remember.")

Then he paused and asked,

"Waise... abhi jo ladki tere saath baat kar rahi thi, vo kaun thi?"

("By the way... that girl you were talking to earlier, who was she?")

"Kaunsi ladki?" Rahul looked confused.

("Which girl?")

"Abe, abhi jo tere saath khadi thi! Beige saree, black eyes, phone tha haath mein... pastel pink phone cover."

("Dude, the one who was just standing with you! Beige saree, black eyes, phone in hand... pastel pink phone cover.")

Rahul narrowed his eyes. "Itni detailing? Teri tabiyat theek hai na?"

("That much detail? Are you feeling okay?")

"Abe, tu jo pucha hai vo bata!"

("Just answer what I asked, idiot!")

"Oh, vo? She's the event manager. Engagement unki Company ke through ho rahi hai na."

("Oh, her? She's the event manager. The engagement is being handled by Continental Company, remember?")

"Company unki hai?" Rishi asked, now more curious.

("Is the company hers?")

"Nahi, jo unke saath khada tha-Ashwad Awasthi-vo owner hai. Miss Maheshwari is just an employee," Rahul clarified.

("No, the guy with her-Ashirwad Awasthi-is the owner. Miss Maheshwari is just an employee.")

"Tu sab kuch kyu stalk kar raha bhai?" Rahul teased.

("Why are you stalking everything, man?")

Rishi shrugged with a small smirk.

"Chal ab main nikalta hu, bye," he said and left.

("Alright, I'm leaving now. Bye.")

In the car:

Rishi drove silently, focused on the road, his mind elsewhere. The cars behind him seemed to move in sync with his speed.

"Miss Maheshwari..." he whispered with a small smile. Just saying her name made his heart flutter.

He ruffled his hair and took a deep breath.

"What have you done to me?" he chuckled and pressed his foot gently on the accelerator.

Janvi's POV:

I'm at an engagement party... not for fun. Just an event manager, that's all. But I swear, if I'm not home before midnight and mom finds out, I'm dead.

All thanks to my boss-Ashu my bestfriend -who's going to convince my mom that I'm still working.

I wore the saree because I felt like it... but my heels are killing me.

After 15 minutes, I went up to Ashu.

"Ashu, I'm heading home," I said.

"Chal, main drop kar deta hu," he offered.

("Come on, I'll drop you.")

"Arey, main chali jaungi," I insisted.

("Hey, I'll go by myself.")

"Maine aunty se bola hai ki main teri safety ka zimmedar hu. So I have to drop you."

("I told your mom I'm responsible for your safety. So I have to drop you.")

He smiled and led me to the parking lot.

In the car, I settled in the passenger seat.

"Chal bro, mujhe neend aa rahi hai."

("Drive fast, bro, I'm getting sleepy.")

"Ho gaya Sleeping Beauty ko drama?" he teased, adjusting himself in the driver's seat.

("Are you done with your Sleeping Beauty drama?")

It took us around 20 minutes. After dropping me home, he drove off.

I tiptoed in my heels to the door. Didn't want the neighborhood to know I was late. I called my sister.

She picked up after one ring and whispered, "Aap awaz mat karna!"

("Don't make any noise!")

"Okay," I whispered back.

She opened the door quietly. I tiptoed inside, and she followed. Once in my room, I said,

"Thanks siso."

"Thanks nahi chahiye, didi. Bas 200 rupees bhej do," she grinned.

("Don't say thanks, sis. Just send me 200 rupees.")

I gave her a thumbs up and changed into my nightshirt and shorts.

Finally, I crashed into bed.

Author's POV:

The sun peeked through floral curtains in a modest yet lively home. In the kitchen, the aroma of ginger chai and sizzling tadka filled the air.

Rashmi, Janvi's mom, stood beside Sheetal Chachi, both wearing cotton sarees, humming old songs as they prepared breakfast.

On the verandah, Dadi-Rajshree-sat with glasses perched on her nose, reading the morning paper.

Ovi, the youngest, danced around in one sock, searching for her schoolbag.

"Ovi, bag pack karna mat bhoolna! Assignment bhi rakh lena," yelled Jay Chacha from the living room, sipping tea.

("Ovi, don't forget to pack your bag! Also keep your assignment in it!")

Tisha, Janvi's younger sister, was darting around the house, trying to find her watch.

"nashta ready hai , jaldi aao!" janvi yelled toward the dining table.

("breakfast is ready , come fast!")

"Papa, Chacha, Dadi! Jaldi aao! Nashta lag gaya hai!" she shouted again.

("Dad, Uncle, Grandma! Come quickly! Breakfast is served!")

Soon, everyone gathered around. Rashmi and Sheetal emerged from the kitchen, balancing trays of steaming parathas and hot tea.

Fans, who was eagerly waiting to be served, pushed her plate forward-only to find a file instead of hot stemy Parathas

"An phir se kuch naya namuna doge kya?" she muttered under her breath.

("Ugh, are you giving me some new experiment again?")

"File khol ke dekh le. Pasand na aaye toh bata na ," Sheetal said firmly.

("Open the file and see. If you don't like it, its a bet ")

"Toh dikhane ki acting kyu kar rahe ho? Direct plate mein rakho na!" she grumbled.

("Then why are you acting like you're offering choices? Just put it on the plate!")

"Beta, yeh recipe bohot achhi hai. Try toh kar," Jay Chacha smiled.

("Dear, it's a great recipe. Just try it.")

"Main keh rahi hoon, I'll check. Not rejecting!" Janvi added, entering the room.

("I'm saying I'll check. Not rejecting it!")

"Haan haan, bolna toh padta hi hai," someone teased.

("Yeah, yeah, you have to say that.")

"Bas karo tum log!" Rashmi said, chuckling.

("Enough, you all!")

Everyone resumed breakfast. Afterward, they dispersed to their respective work.

After a tiring day working I was finally home

I sighed, picking up the books, pens, and scattered papers from the bed. "Why does this little princess leave everything everywhere?" I muttered to myself.

I shook my head, trying to clear my thoughts. I changed the bedsheets, rearranged the pillows, and tried to distract myself with small tasks, but nothing helped.

I went into the living room and asked, "mumma, should I make tea for you both?" My mom and Chachi nodded, not paying much attention to me. They were chatting was away

I turned on the stove and began making tea,

I carried the tea to the living room, trying to shake off the feeling of restlessness inside me.

"Ladka pasand aaya?" My mom's voice broke through my haze, a teasing tone in her voice.

"Mumma yaar chai to Shanti se peene do "

I whined , glancing at her, before quickly looking back at my phone. "Chup chap, abhi file lekar aa " my mom ordered me

. "Koi Rajkumar hi hoga, na?" I murmurred walking toward the room

I returned back with the file in my hand

" shakal surat to acchi hai " I said.

"Hai na , kal tujhe unhone coffee ke liye bulaya hai " my mom was head over heels

"Ohh matoshree padhne to do pehle "I said

And I read everything and lastly the name
