Shashi sat comfortably on the plush sofa, her fingers curled around a half-empty glass of Old Fashioned, the rum kissing her lips occasionally as she took slow, thoughtful sips. Aakash sat right beside her, his hand gently cradling hers, whispering sweet nothings only she could hear.

Her outfit

His outfit

{ If you have read the last chapter you know that his blazer was on her lap cause the dress was too short }

----------

Her gaze, however, remained fixed on the bottle placed in front of her. Her eyes had a glassy sheen, as if a storm had just passed through them. Aakash noticed how she could barely hold the glass steady-her fingers trembled, betraying her state.

"Baby... respond," he said softly.

But she didn't.

He cupped her face, lifting her chin gently until her dove-like eyes met his. Her pupils were dilated, her cheeks flushed. The alcohol was taking its toll.

He took the glass from her hand, placing it aside. "Are you okay?"

She giggled, her voice soft like wind chimes. "I'm way better than okay."

He squeezed her hand gently, his voice firm. "Don't drink more."

"But I want to..." she mumbled, struggling to get the words out.

"Who asked you to drink this much?" he scolded lightly.

She didn't respond. Instead, her eyes wandered to the night sky. "Look at the moon... it's so beautiful."

Aakash glanced up.

She turned his face back toward hers, cupping his jaw. "Main apne chaand ki baat kar rahi hoon... tumhari."

([I'm talking about my moon... you.])

Her finger gently traced his cheekbone. "You're looking beautiful tonight."

"Rosebud, you're not in your senses," he said softly.

"I know," she smiled. "And that's exactly why I want you to be with me," she whispered, placing his hand on her waist.

"Shhh," she hushed him, her bold eyes fixed on his lips.

Control yourself, Aakash. She's drunk, he warned himself.

But her fingers were already playing with the buttons of his shirt, pulling him in. He took out his phone and messaged Adarsh, but his friend was too busy dancing to notice.

Frustrated, Aakash ruffled his hair. "bikhre baalon mein bhi kitne sundar lagte ho," she murmured.

([Even in your messy hair, you look so handsome.])

He blushed, a warm red blooming across his neck and ears. But the moment his eyes met hers, all his frustration melted.

"Baby..." he whispered, cupping her face.

Her sparkling eyes met his.

"Listen to me," he said, his thumbs brushing her cheeks. "You're drunk. Not in your senses."

"I know I'm drunk, Mr. Rajput," she said, her hands finding their way to the back of his neck. "But don't say no to something you'll regret later."

"Like what?" he asked, voice breathy as she leaned in.

"Like being close to me," she whispered, her bold lips challenging his restraint.

"That's it," he said, wrapping his blazer around her legs and lifting her in his arms. "Let's go inside and sleep."

"I'm not sleepy," she murmured, nestling her face into his neck.

"We'll see once you meet the bed, Rosebud," he smiled.

"Rosebud?" she raised her brows.

"Yes, meri jaan. Meri pyari Rosebud," he said, entering the room.

She giggled playfully, kissing his neck. He wasn't surprised-he had expected this. She wouldn't calm down until sleep took her.

At the bed, he gently tried to lay her down, but she clung to him.

"I don't feel like leaving you," she whispered.

"I'll be right beside you, meri jaan," he reassured, making her lie down.

She held his hand again as he reached for his phone. "Sleep beside me," she said, clutching his wrist.

"I'll be here only, Rosebud. Just give me two minutes," he whispered, brushing her hair aside.

"You must be calling your girlfriend to say you're busy with your wife," she teased, pulling on his shirt.

"I don't have a girlfriend, Rosebud," he said, gently prying her fingers away.

"Then why do you want to leave me?" she pouted.

"Even if I wanted to, I couldn't stay away from you. Just give me two minutes. I'll be back."

"And what do I do till then?" she asked sleepily.

"Mere paas moongfali nahi hai na... chilne de deta."

([I don't even have peanuts to munch on...])

"Thoda zor se bolo," she teased.

([Speak a little louder.])

"Kuch nahi, meri jaan," he chuckled, brushing her hair back. He sat beside the bed, kneeling, drawing gentle circles on the back of her palm until her breathing slowed into deep slumber.

He pulled his hand back slowly and covered her with the duvet, careful not to wake her. She stirred a little, her bracelet clinking, ut he stilled her.

Aakash smiled at her peaceful fac, brushing her bangs from her forehead and kissing her forehead gently.

He walked out to the balony and called Adarsh.

"Bhai, tu kahan hai?" he asked the moment the call connected.

"Bro, jaldi room mein aaja," Aakash said, tension clear in his voice.

"Kuch hua kya?" Adarsh asked.

"Bas tu aa," Aakash cut the call.

Soon, Adarsh entered the room. "Kya hua?"

"She drank too much. Now she's out," Aakash replied.

"And now you're tense. Why?"

Aakash sighed.

Adarsh looked at Shashi, then at Aakash. "Sabse pehle toh... don't sleep next to her."

Aakash frowned. "Kya?"

"Aakash, I know you. Don't Tempt fate, you'll lose. She's drunk. She's not in her senses."

"I won't do anything," Aakash said, guilt flashing in his eyes

"Even if you don't, what if she thinks you did?" Adarsh asked seriously

"She won't sleep properly in that dress," Aakash said quietly. "She'll be embarrased if someone else helps her change."

"Let her sleep like that, bro. If she wakes up and sees she's in different clothes, she'll be ashamed., embarrassed or the worst angry "

Aakash nodded. "Fine."

"Also, there's a lipstick mark on your neck," Adarsh teased

Aakash turned away, cheeks flushed

"Biwi badi romantic mil gayi hai tujhe," he added with a smirk

([You've got quite the romantic wife.])

"Chal nikal, saale," Aakash mutteed, trying to hide his grin.

Adarsh laughed and left them lone.

Aakash changed into comfortable clothes and sat on the chair by her bedside-a chair which was infront of the study table made for shashi - but she never used it as she never stayed here -in japan

He watched over her, guarding her dreams as if she were the most fragile secret of his world.
